In 1960, in the heart of Erode, Tamil Nadu, a couple with a passion for food and a devotion to their culture opened a small kitchen. Mr. Kuppusamy and Mrs. Rukmani believed that the truest expression of Kongunadu identity was its cuisine — complex, aromatic, deeply nourishing.
Mrs. Rukmani hand-ground every spice blend herself. She passed these recipes — and the exacting standards that came with them — to the next generation. Nothing was written down. Everything was felt.
Today the family kitchen first known as Thiru Kuppusamy Unavagam carries that flame across America as Kuppanna's Thiru Kuppusamy. The spice blends still follow her method. The recipes are unchanged. The warmth is the same.
